At Christchurch School, our mission is your growth: your Great Journey begins here, beside the Rappahannock River.
We begin our journey together by recognizing the gifts that you bring: we believe that every student is of infinite value, and we will guide your journey by helping you discover your strengths by helping you to build your self-confidence, to find a sense of purpose, and to establish your identity.
Your journey will include challenge and growth: learning things you never knew, experiencing things you've never done, and finding that you can and do have an impact on the world around you.
Your journey will include the support, structure and stimulation of our core values. You will find the acceptance and kindness you need to succeed. You will increase your curiosity about the world around you, learn respect for others and the environment, and how important integrity is.
In academics, you'll find that you can learn inside and outside the classroom. Our academic philosophy is rooted in experiences. Our talented and engaging faculty is dedicated to student success, and to making learning meaningful by creating engaging experiences for you. That means learning by asking questions, learning by doing, and learning by making connections between classes and with the community and environment around our campus. We take the classroom to the river, and bring the river to the classroom.
In the afternoons, life at Christchurch offers a huge variety of choices to fulfill our requirement that every student grow by being involved in our community. Students participate in four areas, each offering opportunities to grow in confidence and ability: Athletics, River and Outdoor, Community Service and Spiritual Life, and Campus Life.
On dorm and around campus, we want your time at Christchurch to be homelike and comfortable, but also to provide you with growth and learning experiences. Each hall of our dorms becomes a family, sharing study time but also outings, meals and relaxation. Student activities that continue your journey include Weekend Adventure Trips and a variety of recreational activities.
Community Aspirations:
What we need for the Journey,
to fulfill our mission and live our values.
As a community, we aspire:
To engage in lifelong learning and the critical use of information. To this end we are committed to an integrated, differentiated college preparatory curriculum designed to enable students with diverse learning styles to be active learners who make meaning out of the world around them.
To lead lives of transformation, both for ourselves and for others. As an Episcopal school, we are committed to fostering self-confidence, purpose, and identity in ourselves as well as spiritually and communally informed responsibility toward others.
To have an integral sense of environmental stewardship. To this end, we integrate care for the river and the natural world into all that we do.
To lead lives of physical, psychological, and creative integrity. To this end we are committed to developing active lifestyles, healthy minds, and creative and artistic expression.
To engage in personal reflection as well as relation with one another. To this end we are committed to providing time and opportunity to support meaningful interaction.
To be aware of and actively engaged with the international community. To this end we are committed to building curricular and co-curricular programs that foster a global understanding of learning and living.
