SPRING 2021 REOPENING

WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE FOLLOWING:

We agree that the well-being of the entire community will be a priority in how we conduct ourselves.

We commit ourselves to supporting the mental, physical, and emotional good health of every member of our community.

We will follow the guidelines established for the full community. These guidelines will be based on information from the VA Dept. of Health; the Centers for Disease Control; the Commonwealth of Virginia; and other official sources.

We agree to respect and support the safety of every person int eh community, even when some measures seem inconvenient.

When we are away from campus, we will observe preventative measures that ensure the safest possible campus environment upon our return. We will strive in every way possible to avoid being spreaders of disease.

SETTING AND PRESERVING OUR BUBBLE - HOW WE DID AND ARE DOING IT

Boarding students entered in coordinated waves with strict on-campus quarantine protocol.

All students, faculty, and staff mask at all times (except for in their own dorm rooms and in individual offices).

All students, faculty, and staff physically distance by 6 feet whenever possible.

All students, faculty, and staff take a daily health screen and temperature check.

Expanded Health Services facility allows for quarantine upon entry and isolation if necessary.

All Packages and take-out food are delivered to a central location and then dispersed to students.

Vendors and visitors are strictly limited. All vendors and visitors must report for a health screen and temperature check upon arrival to campus.

All common areas on campus are regularly sanitized.

Hand sanitizer is available at all time on all halls, in all classrooms and offices, and in all common spaces.

All faculty/staff are SERVSAFE certified.
ACADEMICS - HOW WE DO IT

CANVAS is a teaching/learning platform that makes it possible for students to participate fully in each class, whether they are on campus or at home because of safety or travel reasons. Instructors build their courses so that all course material is available to students at all times, in the form of videos, text, readings, discussions, etc. Students turn in assignments through Canvas, and students and their parents can see feedback from teachers and assignment grades there. Faculty enhance CANVAS with in-person meetings for students on campus, and with Zoom meetings for students who are at home.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Our health services staff includes two full-time nurses.

The Health Services facility is expanded to include dedicated health screening, treatment, quarantine, and isolation areas.

All students in quarantine and isolation have meals delivered.

Our Health and Wellness Team is full-time. Social and emotional expertise and support is available to all students whether they are remote or on campus.
RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES

Our professional faculty and coaching staff provide as many safe recreational as possible.

These include weight training, fishing, kayaking, sailing, biking, and camping.

Individual sports practice skills and drills with masking and distancing.

Our 125-acre, waterfront campus provides a variety of recreational settings, from manicured sports fields to hiking trails, to beach, dock, and slipway.
