DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Christchurch School is a private co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9-12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the banks of the Mighty Rappahannock River in Virginia. Position Overview. The Director of Marketing & Communications, at the direction of the Head of School and Senior Administrative Team, leads all aspects of the School’s internal and external marketing, communications, and publication needs, and develops comprehensive, strategic, and effective campaigns for a variety of initiatives, all while managing the day-to-day needs of the School. This position understands the need for modern marketing and communication strategies across all platforms, and the need for continuous learning and innovation. This position requires a person who is forward-thinking and creative, who has excellent interpersonal, organizational, technical, and problem-solving skills, and can work with key stakeholders and constituents, while multi-tasking and meeting all deadlines.
 
This position is Full-Time and Exempt. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Supervise all internal and external communications, marketing, and publications matters. 
  • Manage all website, SEO, and social media management and practices.
  • Oversee all e-communique, drip campaigns, copyediting, and other related needs.
  • Work with the Head of School and other departments and programs, in particular Admission and Development, to create and execute marketing and communications. strategies and campaigns to effectively reach their respective goals. 
  • Create, curate, and manage compelling content (all media) for all platforms. 
  • Direct and manage freelancers/vendors working on various projects.  
  • Stay current on all practices, platforms, software, strategies, tools, etc. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications and marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ direct experience or in a related field. 
  • Ability to multi-task with excellent organizational, copywriting, and editing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance long and short-term initiatives with the many mundane daily requirements, which can sometimes be time sensitive.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills. 
  • Able to work alone or with others in a fast-paced environment, while keeping up with, or ahead of, trends and best practices for all platforms.
  • Effective storyteller experience across all platforms with expertise in photography, videography, graphic design, layout, social media, SEO, media relations, etc.
  • Prior experience with, and the ability to learn and use, WCMS, CRMS, web analytics, etc.
  • The ability to travel occasionally and to work outside of regular business hours – flexibility and adaptability are essential skills for success in this role. 
 
Physical demands: Ability to work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods, as well as be mobile around the School’s campus and buildings when needed.
