Xiaoyang says "CCS really focused on my individual growth." He especially liked the many activities to choose from on the weekends. And, he says "I love the beautiful view!" Haoxuan Zhang '17

BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY
Computer Science

Haoxuan chose to attend Brandeis University but was accepted to many outstanding schools such as University of California - Davis and University of California- Irvine. As a student at Brandeis University, Haoxuan says that is it very important to be able to think critically. "Fortunately, CCS offered me a lot of opportunities to train myself to think critically!" Perhaps the most valuable skill that Frank gained from CCS though is excellence in time management. He finds that many of his classmates at Brandeis University are not able to use their time effectively. He is especially thankful for the CCS community, "undoubtedly, studying abroad for a 14-year-old is a challenge. However it comes with precious outcome, and the faculty knows how to take care of students, especially those who are far away from family." Haoxuan emphasizes that his time at Christchurch helped him to grow up and find his identity. He feels sure that other Chinese students can find their purpose at CCS as well!

BS HONORS PROGRAM Aerospace, Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering

In the midst of earning his Ph.D. in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Hanqing is in California completing an internship with Yahoo/Verizon as a Data Scientist using artificial intelligence technuques. Hanqing found the curriculum at CCS to be excellent, especially the emphasis on critical thinking and the ability to make connections between textbook knowledge and real problems. He says, "I have carried all the skills I learned from CCS into my current research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, working to think outside the box and to make a real impact on how humans interact with artificial intelligence." Hanqing also loved the after-school activities. "Sailing and golf offered me a unique opportunity to try something new outside the classroom, collaborate with friends, achieve goals and have fun together. In short, CCS taught me to work hard and play harder!"  These days, to balance his rigorous academic studies, William loves to play table tennis and fly - he has his private pilot license.
