Our community and curriculum are built around a student-centered, transformational educational philosophy of relationships, engagement, and agency. The root of the word “educate” is “to lead out.” Education helps students move beyond what they were before to become larger people ready to enter the world. We believe that education understood in this sense does not just happen in the classroom. Rather, this approach informs our community and the curriculum of all our programs: in academics, in community life and culture, and in co-curriculars. Teachers at CCS embrace this calling by believing strongly in being a mission-driven community. Our teachers know our mission, believe in it, and try to live it every day. Prospective teachers should be committed to our progressive approach to education, which focuses on helping students build competencies and make meaningful connections so that learning is more than memorizing content or taking a test but is something that helps them walk in the world. Our aim is to meet students where they are, help them strive for excellence, and give them the tools to find their place and contribute in a rapidly changing world.
Please find attached a PDF of our Institutional Framework. This is the document the guides our day-to-day practice in our roles as teacher, advisor, dorm parent, co-curricular leader, and all around community member. If you come to school for an interview, your thoughts and experience with the ideas in the document are areas we would want to hear specifically about.
